Furuset, K. (2016). Hva betyr plantenavna blokkebær, mikkelsbær og skinntryte?. Blyttia: Norsk botanisk forenings tidsskrift. 74(3), 200–203.
Abstract
Bog bilberries Vaccinium uliginosum resemble bilberries Vaccinium myrtillus, but are lighter blue and less tasty. In Norwegian they are called «blokkebær», which means pale berries. Although fully edible, the berries have been considered to be harmful or unsuitable for consumption. Therefore, they have also got several pejorative names, of which «skinntryte» and «mikkelsbær» are the most common ones. «Tryte» is a nickname which means whining woman, while the prefix in «mikkelsbær» is the Christian name Michael, which carries negative connotations.
